Life Prize awards for American pro-life activists

The Gerard Health Foundation has identified the winners of its first Life Prizes: awards recognizing "unsurpassed strides in preserving and upholding the sanctity of human life." The Massachusetts- based group will award 6 prizes at ceremonies to be held in Washington in January.

The honorees are:

  1. The American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists
  2. Richard Doerflinger, the veteran associate director of the US bishops' pro-life committee
  3. Peggy Hartshorn, the president of Heartbeat International, a network of pregnancy resource centers
  4. Jill Stanek, a nurse and popular blogger who exposed infanticide in Illinois and helped rally support for legislation protecting babies who survive abortion
  5. Lila Rose, a pro-life activist on the UCLA campus, who called attention to Planned Parenthood's willingness to cover up evidence of statutory rape
  6. Kay Cole James, founder of the Gloucester Institute, which promoted pro-life education among African-Americans
