New Canonizations, Beatifications Approved July 03, 2000
VATICAN (CWNews.com) -- On July 1, the Congregation for the Causes of Saints published 19 new decrees on candidates for beatification and canonization.
The promulgation of these decrees, in the presence of Pope John Paul II, cleared the way for five future saints: the Italian priests Blessed Luigi Scrosoppi (1800-1884) and Blessed Agostino Roscelli (1818-1902), the Italian layman and third-order Capuchin Bernardo da Corleone (1605-1667), the Spanish nun Blesses Paola of St. Joseph Calasanzio (1799- 1889), and the Lebanese nun Blessed Rebecca (1832- 1914). Blessed Rebecca will be the first Lebanese native to be canonized.
Two other decrees concerned the impending beatification of the Italian Alfonso Maria Fuscio (1839-1910) and the German Maria Eutimia, (1914- 1995).
Twelve other decrees recognized the "heroic virtue" of candidates for beatification. This recognition means that these candidates may now be known as "Venerable," and can be beatified after the official approval of a miracle attributed to their intercession. Those recognized were: Bishop Carlo Liviero (1866-1932), Father Marco Antonio Durando (1801-1880), Casimir Barello Morello (1857-1884), Sister Eugenie Ravasco (1845-1900, Sister Marie de Jesus (1837-1905), Sister Maria Rosa, (1917-1972), Sister Bonifacia Rodriguez Castro (1837-1905), Sister Pieta of the Cross, (1842-1916), Sister Maria Louisa Josephine of the most Blessed Sacrament (1866-1937), Sister Maria Guadaloupe (1878-1963). Father Adriano Osmolowski (1838-1924), and Father Felix de Jesus, Rougier.
