VATICAN POLYGLOT PRESS

First planned by Popes Marcellus II and Pius IV, a Vatican printing press was founded by Pope Sixtus V in 1587 for the printing of the Vulgate, the writings of the Fathers, and other Vatican publications. A second press, with various Oriental fonts, was established in 1622 at the Propaganda Fide. The two were merged by Pope Pius X in 1908 under the present name and entrusted to the Salesian Fathers.
