PROSELYTE

A convert from one religion to another. In the Old Testament a proselyte to Judaism was not fully accepted until he was circumcised. When Paul and Barnabas made Christian converts in Antioch, they made no distinction between Jews and Gentiles and fought successfully at Jerusalem against the requirement of circumcision (Acts 15). Nicolaus, a proselyte from Antioch, was one of the seven deacons chosen by the Apostles (Acts 6:5).
