ORGANIC ARTICLES

The law regulating public worship in France, enacted under Napoleon (1769-1821). It was simultaneously published and enacted with the Concordat of 1801. Until 1905 the French Government held that the "articles" were inseparable from the concordat, but the Holy See refused to admit their validity because Pius VII had not approved their promulgation.
