Eleven ;men bore this name in the Old Testament. The best known was a son of Aaron who became a Levite leader and succeeded his father as high priest under Moses and later Joshua (Numbers 3:32; Exodus 6:23). His most significant work possibly was the apportionment of land in Canaan to the Israelites (Joshua 14:1-2).
