CONGREGATION FOR THE CLERGY
The new name of the former Congregation of the Council, originally created to interpret authentically the doctrine and decrees of the Council of Trent. Re-established under its present name by Pope Paul Vi in 1966, it has three main functions: to co-ordinate and initiate efforts for the spiritual, pastoral, and intellectual development of priests; to supervise the preaching of the word of God, catechetics, and the religious instruction of infants, children, and adults; to ensure the preservation and proper administration of the temporal goods of the Church.
