An apostolic letter of Pope Paul VI, establishing the Council of the Laity and the Pontifical Commission for the Study of Justice and Peace. The function of the Council of the Laity is to promote the development of the lay apostolate as a service agency for: 1. co-ordinating apostolic works; 2. establishing liaisons between the laity and the hierarchy; 3. compiling doctrinal studies on the role of lay people in pastoral activity; and 4. establishing and maintaining a documentation center. The purpose of the Commission on Justice and Peace is to: 1. promote and develop awareness among the faithful of their mission to promote the progress of poor nations; 2. encourage international social justice; 3. seek ways and means of establishing peace in the world (January 6, 1967).
