ANT

The insect that is mentioned twice in the Old Testament as a symbol of what man ought to be. The ant is a rebuke to laziness, "Idler, go to the ant; ponder her ways and grow wise" (Proverbs 6:6). It is an example of prudence, the first among "creatures little on the earth, though wisest of the wise; the ants, a race with no strength, yet in the summer they make sure of their food" (Proverbs 33:25).
