AMOS

Third among the minor prophets. He describes Israel as steeped in national prosperity and reveling is sin. The central theme of his book is a threefold prophecy that extends through nine chapters. The first part (1-2) foretells God's judgment on the nations surrounding Israel and then on Israel itself. The second part (3-6) develops the divine judgment against Israel in three separate discourses. The third part (7-9) records five visions, of which the fifth describes the glorious anticipation of messianic blessings. Amos is the prophet of God's sovereign lordship over all creation.
