sunshine and rose windows

Modern society is "wrecking the planet's environment," the Anglican bishop said, and so:

He called on churches and other places of worship to reduce global warming by installing solar panels on their rooftops.

Notice, in this Times Online report whose environment is at risk. Not yours. Not mine. Not society's. Not God's. The environment belongs to the planet.

And in contemplating the proposal to put solar panels in church roofs— and that will solve the problem, by golly!— you might think about how previous Christian generations arranged for the light to shine through stained-glass windows in cathedrals. There's some irony in the name of the environmentalist Anglican prelate: Right Rev Richard Chartres.

We all know what needs to be done in a human manner, i.e. throw the bums out, but perhaps the better question is what are the prudential arguments in favor of the Church not throwing them all out? This is something that truly baffles me, and the only consolation I can come up with, is what one priest told me: "in God's time ..."

I'm with you and let's expand it: those who will not take seriously their responsibilities to throw out those politicians who reject the Church and its teachings and those who don't rid their dioceses of gay priests. Maybe Taco Bell is too big...

You had me going there for a second, Di. I had my fingers on the keyboard to write a scathing rejoinder---till I got to the last line, where you wrote it for me. Right on, as usual.
