State of Shock

By Diogenes ( articles ) | May 01, 2005

An eminent Jesuit theologian confesses that he was stunned by the election:

But the Rev. Patrick Howell, dean of the School of Theology and Ministry at Seattle University, said he was shocked.

"I think most American Catholics were shocked by the selection of Cardinal Ratzinger because he's been known as the guardian for tradition and orthodoxy," the priest said.

"What were they thinking?" Howell wondered about the cardinals. "I don't have an answer."

Shocked. Tradition. Shocked. Pope. Orthodoxy. Shocked. Don't have an answer. Guardian of. Shocked, shocked. Cardinals. Tradition and orthodoxy. Shocked. Supreme Pontiff. Shocked. Shocked. Shocked. What were they thinking? Shocked. Don't have an answer. Can't find an answer. Shocked.
