Pope Francis on the Phone

I see Pope Francis has done it again, making telephone contact with an ordinary troubled person who has written to him for advice—first a rape victim, now an unwed mother. The two instances may be reviewed here:

Of course, each pope must evaluate the most effective ways to spend his time, but for Francis this seems to work pretty well, not only as true charity but as effective publicity.

Still, the thought I wish to share here is simply how much fun it must be, in these moments, to be the Pope, which is obviously not very much fun most of the time. Perhaps I am easily entertained, but I find it enormous fun as well, fun bordering on joy.

    But this pope and his toadies are disciples of Hegel, where, as it happens, logic (and moral sanity) fade into irrelevance. Lest we forget, 2 + 2 = 5.
