Planned Parenthood Hires National Chaplain

By Diogenes ( articles ) | Mar 15, 2004

Building bridges:

In an apparent attempt to mend relations with Christians, Planned Parenthood has hired a national chaplain to "articulate the spiritual dimensions of sexuality and reproduction."

Everyone's first choice for the job will be Father Robert F. Drinan, S.J. , of Georgetown University Law School, who -- while yet a congressman -- wrote the President of the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (5 August, 1974):

"I feel that hopefully we now have an impetus going in Congress which will never allow such a notion [an anti-abortion amendment] to become the law of the land. I have regularly received excellent information from your organization and will continue to rely upon you and your associates."

Clearly Drinan proved a man of his word, and he and Planned Parenthood had little to reproach one another with over the years. (They gave the chaplain job to a younger man, though.)
