The National Catholic Reporter is in rebellion; which side are you on?

The National Catholic Reporter believes that the teaching of the Catholic Church is “unjust.” So if your diocese is advertising in the Reporter for a justice-and-peace coordinator, you can’t safely assume that the applicants’ understanding of “justice” will match that of the universal Church.

The National Catholic Reporter has called for a campaign of public opposition to a teaching that, according to the Vatican, “requires definitive assent.” So if your parish is advertising in the Reporter for a director of religious education, you can’t safely assume that the applicants will promote the teachings of the Church.

The National Catholic Reporter has been operating under an episcopal condemnation since 1968, when the local bishop said that the paper had lost the right to call itself “Catholic.” So if you see the Reporter on the literature rack in your parish, you can’t safely assume that the pastor respects the authority of the local bishop.

Folks, let’s get serious. The Reporter is now in open rebellion. Insofar as Catholic dioceses, parishes, schools, religious communities, and other Church institutions are supporting the newspaper, they are contributing to that rebellion. Don’t let them do it with your money.

Have America Magazine and/or Commonweal ever been similarly condemned?

Excellent point, jg. Might I also suggest Catholics who support, additionally support other faithful Catholic media such as The Wanderer or the National Catholic Register.....

We can rail against NCR in print all we want, but they will continue their campaign of undermining the faith despite our words. The effective way to put a stop to this nonsense is, as Phil Lawler hints here, to defund the anti-Cathlolic-masquerading-as-Catholic rag. But that is not enough. Thoughtful and sincere Catholics will want to do something positive as well. Why not make a sacrificial contribution to this website tonight as your answer to the staff at NCR and their plea for rebellion?
