more on the pelotte story

By Diogenes ( articles ) | Oct 02, 2007

Things are sounding more and more bizarre in Gallup. Here's an update on Bishop Pelotte's nocturnal intruders.

[Diocese of Gallup Bishop Donald] Pelotte called police before dawn last Thursday, reporting that there were four intruders inside who did not want to leave. Police responded within minutes, but they found no one.

According to a police report, the bishop told officers that one male and three females were running through the home, wearing costumes and masks. He said the intruders were between 3 and 5 feet tall.

My emphasis.

Further update. Tapes of Pelotte's Thursday mornng call to 9-1-1 have been obtained by a news service, which provides a partial transcript of the conversation:

Dispatcher: "Can you tell me what happened?"

Pelotte: "They're just moving. They've been quiet. They've been going upstairs in the bedrooms and hiding behind the artifacts. But they don't talk."

[Pelotte tells the dispatcher that the people in his home are wearing masks.]

Dispatcher: "What kind of masks do they have?"

Pelotte: "Ma'am, I don't have the time to tell you. You'll see it for yourself. Please send somebody over here."

Dispatcher: "Do they still have their masks on?"

Pelotte: "It's pretty hard to decide what the issue is. But I can't leave them here overnight."

Portions of the recordings are audible in a video news story found on the same web-page. Pelotte sounds mildly upset and quite clearly deranged. It's plain he'll be relieved of duty and that he's in need of treatment.

The only reason Newman didn't say something like it is that he's dead.
