What do you call a Supreme Court Justice who sides with the court's liberal voting bloc virtually all of the time?

That's obvious, if you're on the news-reporting team (as opposed to the editorial page) of the Wall Street Journal. You call him a "moderate."

The Journal article takes some digs at other possible nominees for the Supreme Court opening, then zeroes in on Judge John Roberts, who is "brainy and likeable." In case that endorsement is too subtle, the article continues:

He is widely admired by Democrats, as well as Republicans. "I think he's the conservative equivalent to a Ruth Bader Ginsburg or Stephen Breyer," says Bradford Berenson, a former Bush White House official, referring to two Supreme Court justices who are considered moderate...
