Speaking at a meeting with journalists this week, Bishop Joseph Duffy, who chairs the Irish bishops' communications committee, asks:
How do we improve the relationship between Church and the mass media?
Do you feel a PR campaign coming on? Will the bishop try to jolly up the reporters? Tell them that he's their friend? Buy them drinks?
No; give him credit for candor, at least. He continues:
Perhaps a starting point could be to explore how we can achieve a greater level of understanding and tolerance of each other.
