Le coeur a ses raisons
Bishop Margot Kaessmann of the Germany Lutheran Church has resigned. "My heart tells me quite clearly that I cannot stay," she says.
It may have been her liver talking to her, rather than her heart, after she was arrested for drunk driving. Still, whatever organ it was that sent the message, she received it.
Now suppose instead of running a red light-- and, thank God, hurting no one-- while on an alcoholic toot, Bishop Kaessmann had coddled and protected child-molesters over a period of years while stone-cold sober. What would her heart have told her then?
We can only guess. Meanwhile our heads tell us that she's not an American Catholic bishop.
