The Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith gave a deposition yesteday in San Francisco.
A high-ranking Vatican official was deposed for seven hours Monday when lawyers questioned him on how the Portland diocese handled priest sex abuse allegations during his tenure there.
Plaintiffs' attorney Kelly Clark described former Archbishop William Levada as articulate and intelligent and said it "was a productive day." Clark added that it was "a remarkably uncontentious deposition." ...
"Almost none of his answers will get him in trouble ... but the documents we find may contradict what he said," Clark said. "I don't think he was being untruthful. I think he was being hopeful.
