Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, in a talk at the National Press Club in Washington, restated his belief that pro-abortion Catholic politicians should not be denied Communion. Most American bishops agree with him, he claimed. And judging from the press coverage of his talk, he evidently persuaded reporters that Pope Benedict doesn't really disagree-- although, in the letter that he sent to McCarrick last year, then-Cardinal Ratzinger made it quite clear that he does disagree.
On a separate subject, Uncle Di would like to congratulate Cardinal McCarrick on his recent 75th birthday, and remind Pope Benedict that the cardinal's resignation letter should be on his desk by now.
