entente cordiale

By Diogenes ( articles ) | Oct 22, 2007

Remember Michelle Bachelet, the fashion-conscious socialist and President of Chile? She showed up at the Vatican last week to discuss copper smelting with the Pope. The conversation was "cordial."

As is customary, there was an exchange of deniably offensive gifts. Madam President gave His Holiness a cigar piercer shaped like a horse-drawn artichoke. I can't find a news story reporting what Benedict gave Bachelet in return. I cherish the hope that it was a presentation copy of Paul Wilkes's Travels with Rembert Weakland.

In other news, Clipper rookie Al Thornton had 10 fourth quarter points against the Lakers in Sunday's exhibition game.
