...and the archbishop's a Catholic too
By Diogenes ( articles ) | Feb 24, 2009
Another triumph of investigative reporting! The New York Times has unearthed this fascinating tidbit about the city's new archbishop:
On matters of doctrine, the archbishop, 59, adheres to the line laid down by Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict, including firm opposition to abortion, birth control, divorce, gay marriage and any crack in the wall of priestly celibacy.
That doctrinal "line" is known as Catholicism.
If you learned that Pope John Paul, Pope Benedict, and Archbishop Dolan all had the same favorite dessert, that would be remarkable. But we're not talking about matters of individual taste here. What the Times is telling us is that these three prelates have shared the same faith. Is that a surprise?
By the way, Archbishop Dolan also assents to the Nicene Creed. But don't tell the Times; let them discover that for themselves.
