Vatican official laments secularism, praises conscientious objection

Bishop Giampaolo Crepaldi, secretary of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, told a conference in Assisi that ‘if God disappears from the public square, our capacity to recognize the natural order, purpose, and the ‘good’ begins to disappear.’ Saying that those who call for the removal of crucifixes from public place are far from ‘neutral,’ Bishop Crepaldi praised Catholic agencies that refuse to take part in homosexual adoptions, medical personnel who refuse to prescribe abortifacient drugs, and civil servants who refuse to cooperate in homosexual civil unions.
