Church in Holy Land offers Yom Kippur, Eid greetings

September 23, 2015

The Catholic Church in the Holy Land has sent greetings to Jews and Muslims for Yom Kippur, the Jewish day of atonement, and Eid al-Adha, during which Muslims commemorate Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son.

“The Catholic Church of the Holy Land expresses its best wishes to its Jewish and Muslim brothers, hoping that the feast days will, despite the prevailing tension, be an opportunity to live together in mutual respect, justice, pardon and brotherhood,” said a statement posted on the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem’s website. “We believe in the same God, Creator and Merciful, as we all belong to the larger family of the children of Abraham.”
