Philippines: surge in Catholic population

August 12, 2013

Catholic Church officials in the Philippines have observed an 8% jump in the country’s Catholic population.

Statistics collected by the bishops’ conference show 76.18 million Catholics in the Philippines—up from 70.4 million in the last available survey.

The growth of the Catholic population, however, matched an overall surge in the nation’s figures. The proportion of Catholics in the overall population remained virtually unchanged at 79%.
