Respect parents' rights, Vatican representative tells educators

Schools should respect the rights of parents and of students with special needs, the Vatican's representative told a special UN meeting on education last week. Archbishop Silvano Tomasi insisted that parents are the primary educators of their children, and educators must respect "the basic principle of subsidiarity." He warned against the imposition of "an ideology that wears down all differences and loses sight of the situation of the concrete person."
