Kerala: Archbishop says priests, nun accused of murder are innocent

November 24, 2008

In a pastoral letter read at Masses yesterday, Archbishop Matthew Moolekkat of Kottayam defended two priests and a nun arrested in connection with a nun’s 1992 murder. Police on Saturday also questioned Archbishop Kuriakose Kunnacherry, who led the archeparchy from 1974 to 2006.

The Syro-Malabar Archeparchy of Kottayam is located in the southwestern Indian state of Kerala, India’s Catholic stronghold since its evangelization by St. Thomas the Apostle.
