Syro-Malabar bishop blasts Vatican, Latin Rite bishops

Accusing Latin Rite bishops of ‘ecclesiastical colonization,’ Bishop Gregory Karotemprel, CMI, who has led the Syro-Malabar Diocese of Rajkot since 1983, blasted the Vatican for permitting Syro-Malabar dioceses outside the southwestern Indian state of Kerala to remain under the jurisdiction of Latin Rite ecclesiastical provinces. Bishop Karotemprel’s diocese, which is located in the western Indian state of Gujarat, has only 12,000 Syro-Malabar Catholics but a remarkable 124 priests.
