CWN Editor's Note: Abuse scandal settlements announced by the nation’s dioceses have now reached “well over $2 billion in just the last few years,” according to a New York Times overview.
The largest settlements include settlements announced by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles ($880 million in 2024 and $660 million in 2007), the Archdiocese of New York ($800 million in 2026), the Archdiocese of San Francisco ($395 million in 2026), and the Archdiocese of New Orleans (at least $230 million in 2025).
In addition, plaintiffs recently held a vote on whether to accept the Diocese of Buffalo’s $325-million offer.
