Representatives of Blessed Karl Prayer Union meet with Pontiff

November 05, 2026

Representatives of an apostolate that fosters devotion to Blessed Charles of Austria (1887-1922) met with Pope Leo XIV at the conclusion of his November 4 general audience.

“In recent months, as we listened to Pope Leo speak about the various facets of holiness and read Magnifica Humanitas, especially his call to be peacemakers, even in small, everyday matters, we were constantly reminded of the great example set by Emperor Charles I,” Guido Scatizzi of the Blessed Charles Prayer Union for Peace and Brotherhood Among Nations.told the Vatican newspaper. “He was a devoted family man, a man of deep responsibility, and an exile; his profound devotion to the Virgin Mary led him to have the motto Sub tuum praesidium [Under thy protection] engraved on his wedding ring.”

Father Cristian Comini, who accompanied Scatizzi, asked Pope Leo to bless a bust of Blessed Charles.

Pope Leo also met briefly with the following groups:

  • four pilots from the Argentine airline that will transport the Pontiff during his apostolic journey there
  • pilots from Italian Air Force aerobatic team, one of whom was pilot on a flight during St. John Paul’s 1987 apostolic journey to Argentina. “It was the most significant flight of my life,” said the pilot. “All of us on the crew shared the same sentiment: we were thrilled to have been chosen for a flight that would go down in the history of our airline. It was a historic visit, one that, nearly forty years later, is set to happen again with Leo XIV, and for which we will be praying.”
  • 27 children from the Diocese of Teramo-Atri who are involved in a theatrical production on Christ and the Real Presence
  • vocations directors from England and Wales
  • 40 Vietnamese pilgrims from the Diocese of Cần Thơ, who thanked Pope Leo for the July beatification of a martyred priest
  • a delegation from the radio station of the Capuchin friars of San Giovanni Rotondo
