Pope Leo: Look to the saints, pray for the dead

October 29, 2026

At the conclusion of his October 28 general audience, Pope Leo XIV spoke about the upcoming commemorations of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

“A few days before the Solemnity of All Saints, I invite you to look at this immense host of men and women who present themselves to us as a prophetic sign of the life to come, which already has its beginning in the commitment and Christian witness of earthly life,” Pope Leo said to young people, the sick, and newlyweds.

Moments earlier, the Pope told German-speaking pilgrims:

In the month of November, which is now imminent, the Church intercedes in a special way for the deceased. Let us carry out the spiritual work of mercy of praying for them so that, purified, they may come to eternal communion with God and his saints.

The Pontiff’s words about All Saints’ Day and All Soul’s Day were omitted from the Vatican’s English translation of his remarks.
