CWN Editor's Note: At a December 12 meeting with members of the Italian Union of Blind and Partially Sighted Persons, Pope Francis praised the group for helping to build communities “where everyone can participate without being ashamed of their limitations and weaknesses, cooperating with others to support each other.”

The Pontiff said that it is wring to take the “pietistic attitude” of treating people with impaired vision simply as disabled. “We all need each other,” he said, “not only people with physical fragilities.”
