Italian Church leaders decry ‘profane’ display at music festival

CWN Editor's Note: Bishop Antonio Suetta of Sanremo has angrily protested a performance at the Sanremo music festival, in which a singer made obscene gestures while simulating a baptism.
The show was “not just offensive to religion, but to human dignity,” the bishop said. The Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano also denounced the performance, noting that the offense was compounded because it was broadcast on television.
