CWN Editor's Note: The Pontifical Academy of Sciences, established in 1936, is an advisory body whose members include non-Catholics.
The appointment of Emmanuelle Charpentier, awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2020, follows the August 2 appointment of Donna Strickland, who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2018.
