We should call for a thorough investigation of any Catholic organization that chooses to entangle itself with the state by petitioning for and receiving government money. If individual Catholics cannot afford to donate as much money to the Church and to charitable causes as they are forced to hand over to the government, then we have awarded too much power to a government that is constituted in a way that limits the extent to which it can impose itself on the lives of its citizens.
