CWN Editor's Note: A Catholic pastor in West Warwick, Rhode Island, has posted a list of local legislators who will not be allowed to receive Communion because of their support for legal abortion. Father Richard Bucci announced that “they will not be allowed to act as witnesses to marriage, godparents, or lectors...” as well. The Diocese of Providence issued a statement backing the pastor’s authority.

"We as legislators have an obligation to the people of Rhode Island to vote for legislation that reflects the opinion of the majority of Rhode Islanders, and not allow our religious beliefs to get in the way of our civic obligation as elected officials." Said ex-Catholic Representative Carol McEntee. Seems that whatever religious instruction she received (if any) while Catholic was woefully deficient. Also seems to be following the lead of many in her party: religion stops at parish doorstep.
