Survey shows sharp growth in Americans with no religious affiliation

The fastest-growing religious bloc in America today is the segment of the population that has no faith, according to a new survey by researchers at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. Adults with no religious affiliation account for 15% of the population-- nearly twice the figure from studies in the 1990s.

Ex-Catholics account for the largest single group of respondents who claim no religious affiliation, with male Irish Catholics disproportionately represented.
