Australian prosecutor doubtful on archbishop’s Alzheimer’s claim

CWN Editor's Note: An Australian prosecutor has argued that Archbishop Philip Wilson of Adelaide should be required to testify at his trial for failing to report sexual abuse, despite the revelation that the archbishop suffers from Alzheimer’s disease.
The prosecutor argued that since Archbishop Wilson continues to govern the Adelaide archdiocese, he is evidently not incapacitated by the disease and is capable of giving testimony.
Last week Archbishop Wilson failed to make a scheduled court appearance. His lawyer explained that the prelate was recovering from surgery to implant a pacemaker. The lawyer said that the archbishop is anxious to testify, although he has previously sought to avoid any court appearance.
