USCCB welcomes day of prayer for abuse survivors
September 21, 2016
The president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has welcomed Pope Francis’s call for episcopal conferences to designate a day of prayer for survivors of sexual abuse.
The bishops’ administrative committee is discussing the implementation of the initiative.
“This universal expression of healing and sorrow, joined by our brothers and sisters around the world, will be a powerful reminder that no survivor should walk the path toward healing alone,” said Archbishop Joseph Kurtz of Louisville.
“For whenever we have failed to protect our children from predators, we beg God’s forgiveness,” he added. “For wherever we have failed to support victims of sexual abuse, we beg their forgiveness.”
