Muslims outnumber Christians among refugees entering US

August 18, 2016

Among the refugees who have entered the US in this year, 46% are Muslims, the Pew Research Center reports.

For the first time since the US began keeping track of refugees' religious affiliations, Muslims outnumbered Christians among the 63,000 refugees admitted to the country during the current fiscal year, which began last October. The total number of Muslim refugees-- nearly 29,000-- was also the highest number recorded since the statistics became available.

Refugees from Syria, Somalia, and Iraq accounted for the largest numbers of Muslims accepted.

Among the roughly 9,000 refugees from Syria admitted to the US, fewer than 1% were Christians.
