Archbishop at US-Mexico border: we need to tear down walls

August 12, 2016

The new archbishop of Tijuana, Mexico, visited the US-Mexican border on August 11, leaned on the border fence, and said, “We need to build bridges, and tear down walls.”

Archbishop Francisco Moreno Barrón also said that he hoped that US presidential candidate Donald Trump “will always have people near him who will help him make a profound reflection that would allow him to re-orient his convictions ... for the benefit of the entire human community beyond the interests of one single country,” the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

Father Patrick Murphy, who operates a shelter on the border, said that the archbishop has “worked in Michoacan, where a lot of deportees are from, and where a lot of people are coming from to ask for political asylum. He knows the reality.”

I guess American principles trump Catholic teaching. When will we start thinking in terms of our citizenship in the kingdom of God instead of the kingdoms of this world?

When does the new archbishop ask his government why millions are fleeing Mexico and what that government proposes to do about it (other than send the folks north so the United States can solve their problems)?

We never seem to hear the second part of Mary Joseph's story from the Bishops: Mary snd Joseph went back home to Nazareth from Egypt...they never stayed!

keep your Citizens within your own country, Archbishop! Help to improve and to reform your own country! Stop your people from leaving your country and try to sneak into other people's country ILLEGALLY! It is a shameful thing to do! Are you not ashamed of your country to have created an environment that your citizen want to run away from? We must close our boarders for the safety of our Citizenry.Your country should try to do the same for the good of your Country; close the Border!

Bishop Barron appears to be just one more naïve appointment by the liberal cabal in Rome. Trump is wary of "tearing down walls" for a reason that the good archbishop refuses to face. The very compassion shown by Catholics is being used for its own reflection. Trump may be an ultra radical but he has a point. You cannot have completely open borders without destroying territorial integrity and the bringing in of terrorists to create the anarchy that the radical left is working for.

The Church's position on this issue makes perfect sense: let's make America more like Mexico. Applied globally, let's place global governance in the hands of an unaccountable elite.

Is it too much to ask that Mexico take care of it's own poor? Mexico has great wealth.

I suppose it would have been too much to hope that the new abp. would have said "we need to start respecting the laws of our northern neighbor so he could believe he faces no threat if he tears down this wall...for the benefit of the entire human community."
