Papal visit to Assisi scheduled for August anniversary

Pope Francis will visit Assisi in August, to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the dedication of the Portiuncula chapel.

The Pope will visit the little chapel that ws used by St. Francis for private prayer, on August 4. The Portiuncula is now located inside the basilica of Our Lady of the Angels.
The papal visit will come just after the August 2 anniversary of the "Pardon of Assisi"-- the feast commemorating the plenary indulgence that Pope Honorius III announced for pilgrims to the Portiuncula.
