Pope condemns terrorist attack in Bangladesh

Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State, issued a message following an Islamist terrorist attack at a Bangladeshi bakery that left at least 22 dead. The majority of those killed were Italian or Japanese.

“Deeply saddened by the senseless violence perpetrated against innocent victims in Dhaka, His Holiness Pope Francis expresses heartfelt condolences and condemns such barbarous acts as offences against God and humanity,” Cardinal Parolin said in his July 2 message. “In commending the dead to God’s mercy, His Holiness gives the assurance of his prayers for the grieving families and the wounded.”
