Indian archbishop dismisses Hindu leader's complaints against Mother Teresa
June 29, 2016
Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil, the apostolic administrator of Jowai, India, has reacted strongly against public criticism of Mother Teresa by a Hindu lawmaker.
Gorrakhpur Yogi Adityanath, a parliament member from the Hindu-nationalist BJP party, had charged that Mother Teresa sought to "Christianize" India. He made the remark during an address to a Hindu religious festival.
Saying that the "rash comments" were untrue, Archbishop Menamparampil also observed that they did not represent the true views of the "great religion" followed by most Hindus.
