Benedict XVI to celebrate 65th anniversary of ordination

June 14, 2016

Pope-emeritus Benedict XVI will be honored on the 65th anniversary of his priestly ordination with a quiet ceremony in the Clementine Hall of the apostolic palace later this month.

Joseph Ratzinger was ordained to the priesthood for the Munich archdiocese on June 29, 1951. The Vatican celebration is scheduled for the eve of the anniversary: June 28. Pope Francis is expected to attend.

The former Pontiff has not entered the Vatican's apostolic palace since his resignation on February 28, 2013.
