Pope forms committee to distribute relief aid in Ukraine

June 09, 2016

Pope Francis has established a committee to supervise the delivery of relief aid in Ukraine.

On April 24, in answer to a special request by the Pope, all the churches in Europe took a special collection for Ukraine. The Pontiff has now set up a committee, chaired by Bishop Jan Sobilo, an auxiliary of the Kharkiv-Zaporizhia diocese, to allocate the funds. Father Federico Lombardi, the director of the Vatican press office, said that the aid would be provided to those in greatest need, without regard to their religious affliation.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Secretary of State, is due to visit Ukraine later this month.
