End economic sanctions against Syria, bishops urge EU

Stating that “the situation in Syria is desperate,” Syrian bishops and religious communities have launched an online petition urging the European Union to lift economic sanctions imposed against the Assad regime.

“We ask that the sanctions that affect the daily life of every Syrian be immediately removed,” they said in their petition, adding that the sanctions have “helped to destroy Syrian society.”
