Italian president: defend persecuted Christians

April 28, 2016

Stating that the ISIS “casts its menacing shadow of death also on the cities of our Europe,” President Sergio Mattarella of Italy called for “courage to defend the persecuted community of the [Middle] East.”

In an April 26 message to a conference on persecuted Christians, President Mattarella said that Europe has the responsibility to act in the face of “true genocide” and “ethnic cleansing.” He called for a “great moral, political, diplomatic force” to address the persecution.
