American girl, losing eyesight, will have 'bucket list' meeting with Pontiff

March 30, 2016

A 5-year-old American girl who is losing her eyesight was scheduled to meet with Pope Francis on Wednesday, March 30; but a delayed flight postponed the meeting.

Lizzy Myers, who suffers from Usher Syndrome, had made a "bucket list" of things she wanted to see before her vision failed, and a meeting with the Pope was at the top of her list. Turkish Airlines had offered free flights to the girl and her family, making the wish possible. She was to meet briefly with Pope Francis at the conclusion of his regular weekly public audience.

Unfortunately, because of a delayed connecting flight, the Myers family missed their scheduled flight to Rome, and did not arrive in time for the Wednesday audience. Vatican officials assured reporters, however, that they would arrange a private meeting with the Pontiff later this week.
